As many of you know, choosing the location for our wedding was quite an experience for us. From the beginning we knew we wanted a destination wedding and for a while we considered Marrakech in Morocco. While many of our family and friends supported the idea, we eventually decided it was better suited as a honeymoon spot. The search for a more accessible destination began and after tossing around a number of possibilities, we narrowed our search to Mexico. Its proximity along with the many wonderful experiences related to us by our close family and friends made it impossible to say no.

We had never heard of San Miguel de Allende when we began listing candidate destinations in Mexico. It was added during a casual conversation about the Mexico experiences of our parents' friends. As the draw of a beach wedding faded, San Miguel de Allende kept moving up the list. Eventually we decided to visit in May, 2009 and we immediately fell in love. We can't wait to share that experience with you! About San Miguel
San Miguel de Allende is located in the municipality of Allende in the state of Guanajuato. The municipality rests at 6,140 ft above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. Over the last few centuries much of the regions development was attributable to the wealth of local silver mines. The tourism industry has grown over the last 40 years as the country invests in restorations and works to preserve the regions colonial feel. To visit the city, most foreign travelers fly into one of two neighboring cities, León or Querétaro. To find out more about getting there, check the travel page. |
